About Us
The ETH Future Computing Laboratory (EFCL) is an industry-focused research center that spearheads the development of advanced computing systems and aims to explore high-risk, high-reward ideas. With a focus on hardware and software co-design, the EFCL engages in long-term research on transformative technologies spanning across multiple levels of abstraction: from algorithms and software stacks, to computer architecture and integrated circuits. The researchers in EFCL also have deep domain expertise in Computer Vision, Security, High-performance Computing, Biomedical Signal Processing and Machine Learning at the edge.
As the field of computing shifts to become more distributed, more application-specific, more decentralized, and more open, the EFCL recognizes the value of working with industry partners to advance core areas such as chip design, memory/storage paradigms, parallelism of programming and algorithms, machine-environment interaction, and trusted execution. Additionally, as computing becomes more pervasive in the society, the EFCL also engages with industry partners to bring 'more computing' into modern systems and use-cases.
The EFCL is funded by industrial donations and employs a large number of junior researchers under the supervision of several professors in the Departments of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (D-ITET) and Computer Science (D-INFK). We also welcome new lines of research with new partners.
