Speaker: Dr. Mattia Lucchini, Head of Wearable Sensors Development - Datwyler

Date: May 7th, 2024, 14:00 CET

Where: ETZ E 6

Abstract:

Wearable devices are becoming familiar to the public thanks improved performances and accessibility to health-related data. Nevertheless, the integration of sensors into devices is not always easy and it might lead to obtrusive and stigmatizing designs. Leveraging its long experience in materials and development, Dätwyler supports the wearable market in moving towards truly unobtrusive and accepted form factors. Thanks to the SoftPulse™ technology, we can now provide electrodes for bio-signal acquisition specifically designed for earbuds, glasses, wristables and other non-stigmatizing devices. This technology gives designers and device producers full freedom during the development of their product giving at the same time access to best-in-class performances and stability.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Lucchini studied physical chemistry at the University of Genoa (Italy) and obtained his PhD working between Italy and Switzerland. After the PhD, he joined ETH Zurich as postdoc at the material science department (Multifunctional Materials Group), focusing on nanoparticles synthesis for catalysis and sensing applications. In 2017, Dr. Lucchini joined Datwyler (Switzerland) as material developer, becoming group leader in 2020. Since 2021, he is focusing on the development of wearable sensors supporting the product and market development of SoftPulse electrodes and technology. Dr. Lucchini is author of more than 20 international peer reviewed papers and patents.
